Springfield to vote on casino July 16

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

The Springfield City Council has voted to have residents vote on whether they want a casino on July 16.

MGM is proposing to build an $800 million casino in Springfield's South End.

The company requested a casino vote on July 16 and Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno supported that request.

If residents approve of a casino coming to Springfield, MGM's proposal will go to the State Gaming Commission.

The Commission will decide where the only Western Mass Casino will go.

Hard Rock wants to build a casino in West Springfield on the Big E fairgrounds and Mohegan Sun wants to build a casino in Palmer.
