Suspicious death in Sterling under investigation

STERLING, CT (WFSB) -

State police are investigating a suspicious death in the Quiet Corner.

According to police, troopers were called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Plainfield Road east of Church Street.

Upon arrival, officers located a minor motor vehicle accident. During the investigation of the crash, troopers and EMS personnel determined there was a discrepancy between the type of injury the driver sustained and the vehicle damage.

Troopers determined the driver sustained a chest injury unrelated to the crash. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation led to another scene where a verbal dispute had taken place and resulted in the operator's sustained injury.

Troopers secured both scenes for investigation.

Eastern District Major Crime detectives responded to begin the criminal investigation.  Detectives processed the scenes collecting forensic and physical evidence. Troopers also interviewed witnesses in this crime.

The driver has been identified and the information is being withheld, pending notification of family. The Office of the Chief States Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy on May 28 to determine the exact manner and cause of death.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to contact State Police. All information will be kept in confidence.
