This past Tuesday and Wednesday night, two men were shot and killed in the city's Forest Park neighborhood.
Sunday evening, Springfield police told CBS 3 that progress is being made and both cases are still under investigation.
A makeshift memorial remains at the corner of Belmont Avenue and Hollywood Street.
The flowers, candles and balloons are all a reminder that 22-year-old Angel Llorens was murdered in that area on Wednesday night.
Police said that shooting happened following an argument between Llorens and the suspect or suspects.
The night before, 30-year-old Fabian Pacheco was shot and killed on Orange Street in what police said was a drug-related shooting.
Sunday, one area resident said that he is always alert.
"Personally, I feel safe myself, but I know you have to be on guard," said Vincenzo Manzi. "I would feel safer if I lived in a town like Hampden, East Longmeadow, Longmeadow or Agawam."
After the shootings, Springfield police said they were increasing their presence in the neighborhood.
Manzi praised the police work in the area, but said he has had several issues over the years.
"You always have to watch out," Manzi stated. "I had a scooter in front of my house and it got stolen three weeks ago. You cannot leave anything that is worth anything outside. It could get dangerous sometimes. My brother heard the shots here. I am surprised it was right here. I did not realize it was this close."
Springfield police say they have been working both cases non-stop.
They ask that anyone with information use text-a-tip or to contact the department's detective bureau.
