Marijuana residue leads to heroin bust on OH Turnpike
VERMILION, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Two men from West Virginia are facing felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 2 ounces of heroin, worth $10,000, following a traffic stop on the Ohio Turnpike in Lorain County Tuesday.
Troopers stopped a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt with West Virginia registration for a turn signal violation on the Ohio Turnpike near milepost 136 in Lorain County at 12:12 p.m. During interaction with the driver, troopers noticed marijuana residue on the floorboard, as well as on the passenger's clothes.
A probable cause search revealed the heroin inside the console of the vehicle.
The driver, James Jarrell, 26, of Charleston, WV, and passenger, Nicholas Hitchcock, 21, of Cross Lanes, WV, were incarcerated in the Lorain County Jail. They have been charged with possession and trafficking in heroin, which are second-degree felonies.
If convicted, both could face up to 16 years in prison and up to a $30,000 fine.
