A man was killed when his speeding motorcycle collided with a van in Mesa on Wednesday night.
A Mesa police officer was parked at Country Club Drive and McLellan Road about 8:45 p.m. when she heard the roar of an oncoming motorcycle, according to Steve Berry of the Mesa Police Department.
Berry said the officer watched as the rider headed north through the intersection and collided with the back of a Chevrolet minivan.
The officer tried to keep the man alive until Mesa firefighters took over. The driver, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Impairment was not a factor with the van's driver but had not been determined for the motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist's name was being withheld until his family could be notified, Berry said.
