A Westbrook man was arrested Monday evening after attempting to get people to provide him with an alcohol-free breath sample to bypass his vehicle Ignition Interlock Device.
Clinton police said 67-year-old Kenneth Palifka and a friend were asking several people to provide a breath sample to start his vehicle at the Clinton Town Marina.
Witnesses told police Palifka and his friend were attempting to remove a boat and trailer from the town boat ramp "by hand" after they were unable to start Palifka's car because they both had been drinking earlier in the day.
Police said Palifka's vehicle is equipped with the court ordered Ignition Interlock Device and he has been charged with multiple DUI's in the past.
Palifka was arrested and charged with avoidance of an Ignition Interlock Device. He was released on a $500 bond and is due in Middlesex Superior Court on July 1.
