DOT commissioner to testify at rail hearing

Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner James Redeker is testifying before a U.S. Senate committee on ways to improve passenger and freight rail safety.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal is scheduled to chair Wednesday's hearing before the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation in Washington, D.C.

The hearing, to include two panels, will examine the current state of safety on the nation's passenger and freight rail networks. The discussion is expected to touch on recent high-profile accidents, including the May 17 derailment and collision in Bridgeport that left more than 70 people injured.

Redeker will be part of one panel that is expected include the rail industry, labor, and state government officials. Federal officials, including the Federal Railroad Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will be part of the second panel.
