Chesterfield armed robbers apologize before taking cancer patient's cash, pain pills

A Chesterfield cancer patient is robbed at gunpoint of both his money and pain medications. It happened in his own home in the Huntwood Apartments.

"I was scared. I didn't really know what to do," said Herbert Driscoll. "I'm sitting here with a gun pointed to my face."

Driscoll says he was watching television when the suspects walked inside his home. He says he often leaves the door unlocked.

"The guy kept saying I'm sorry," recalls Driscoll. "I have to do this. I apologize."

Herbert is battling stage 4 cancer.

"I have it in my lungs, my liver, and my throat," said Driscoll.

The thieves made off with $30.00 and Driscoll's pain medication.

Nearby residents say the lighting in the apartment community doesn't help. 2 of the 4 street lights in the neighborhood have been shut off.

"So even if somebody was running around here," said a neighbor who was too afraid to show her face. "We wouldn't be able to identify them. It's dark."

Driscoll says the suspects had an automatic rifle during the robbery.

"I'm a little nervous because you don't know whether to walk to the store at night," said Driscoll.
