Clemson police said they were investigating an arson report after a man's lean-to was burned and a racially-charged message was left behind.
According to the Clemson Police Department report, the victim discovered his tent-style lean-to burned to the ground along a Berkeley Drive property on Wednesday.
The victim said he left his tent about 3 a.m. and returned at 8:30 a.m. to find it on fire with his belongings and cell phone inside, the report stated.
At the scene, police said a large piece of plywood was left with the message "Leave [blank]" painted on it.
Clemson University Fire Department responded to the fire.
The victim said he did not know anyone who was angry at him that would, "Go to that extreme," according to the report.
