Police search for driver after crash in Ellington

ELLINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

State police are searching for a 18-year-old woman after she crashed her car into a tree in Ellington Sunday morning and fled the scene. 

Officers were called to an one-car crash on Treetop Road at about 11:30 a.m. 

Investigators found a vehicle but did not locate a driver, who was later identified as Heather R. Smith of Ellington. 

Police searched the area near the crash and later in the day issued a Silver Alert for Smith. 

Smith is being described as a white female, who is 5'2" and weighs 90 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. 

She was last seen wearing a pink Aeropostale shirt with blue/green lettering and black leggings Capri-style with the word "pink" on the rear.

Anyone with any information about her whereabouts is asked to call state police at 860-896-3200.
