The 19th century whaling ship Charles W. Morgan is approaching a milestone in its restoration ahead of a launch planned for this summer.
The 300-ton ship is to be moved onto a lift over the water at Mystic Seaport in a process that begins Monday and is expected to take until Wednesday evening.
The Morgan is a National Historic Landmark and the world's last surviving wooden whaling ship. It has been undergoing a restoration at the museum since 2008.
The ship is scheduled to be launched on July 21, the 172nd anniversary of the vessel's original launch in New Bedford, Mass. In 2014 it is expected to visit historic ports in New England including Boston, New Bedford, New London, Newport, Provincetown and Vineyard Haven.
