Cooling centers open as temperatures rise

Several communities in Connecticut have opened cooling centers as the temperatures climb into the 90s.

Bloomfield:

  • Alvin & Beatrice Wood Center - 330 Park Ave. Monday to Wednesday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Prosser Library - 1 Tunxis Ave. Monday to Wednesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • McMahon Wintonbury Library - 1015 Blue Hills Ave. Tuesday 1 p.m. - 8 p.m.; Wednesday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Canaan:

  • Canaan Town Hall - 107 Falls St., Falls Village

Durham:

  • Durham Public Library - 7 Maple Ave. Monday to Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

East Hartford:

  • East Hartford Public Library
  • East Hartford Town Hall
  • East Hartford Public Safety Lobby

Fairfield:

  • Fairfield Public Library - 1080 Old Post Rd. Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m to 6 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Fairfield Woods Branch Library - 1147 Fairfield Woods Rd. Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Manchester:

  • Mary Cheney Library 586 Main St. Mon to Thurs 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Whiton Memorial Library Mon to Thurs 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Manchester Senior Center 549 East Middle Turnpike Mon to Fri 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Community YMCA 78 North Main St. Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m. to noon

Monroe:

  • Monroe Senior Center - 235 Cutlers Farm Rd. 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or as needed
  • Wheeler Memorial Library - 733 Monroe Turnpike

Newington:

  • Public libraries that are open until 9 p.m. Senior Center will also be opened if needed

New Hartford:

  • New Hartford Senior Center - 3rd Floor of Town Hall on Main Street

North Branford:

  • Atwater Library on Route 80 and Smith Library on Middletown Avenue

Simsbury:

  • Library and Senior Center (located at Eno Memorial Hall)

Stonington:

  • Stonington Police Station Community Room. Not a 'cooling center' but a space for people to cool down. No water supplied.

Stratford:

  • Public library and municipal buildings open during the day. 

Waterbury:

  • Maloney Magnet School - 233 S. Elm St. 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
  • Silas Bronson Library - 267 Grand St. 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Westport:

  • Westport Center for Senior Activities - 21 Imperial Ave. 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Wilton:

  • Wilton Senior Center - 180 School Rd. 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or as needed.

Windham:

  • Windham Town Hall will open if necessary

Wolcott:

  • Wolcott Senior Center - 211 Nicols Rd. Mon - Fri 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This list will be updated as more cooling centers open across Connecticut.
