FLAGSTAFF, AZ (CBS5) -
Northern Arizona authorities are looking for the driver of U-Haul after hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of goods stolen from a freight train were found stashed inside an abandoned U-Haul truck.
The items were found Saturday and included packaged electronics, like flat screen TV's, speakers, car stereos and DVD players, the Coconino County Sheriff's Office said.
Sheriff's investigators believe the items were stolen from a Burlington Northern Sante Fe train somewhere between Sanders, AZ, and the Arizona-New Mexico state line.
The discovery was made Saturday at around 6:15 a.m., when a deputy was conducting regular neighborhood patrols in the area of Parks, AZ.
He said he saw at least two vehicles that were suspiciously parked. One of them was a U-Haul truck. When the deputy approached, the driver drove off at a high rate of speed.
Another deputy called to assist observed the U-Haul on Interstate 40. The deputy turned around in an attempt to stop the U-Haul, but the truck exited and was left abandoned in the parking lot of a Quality Inn hotel in Williams.
The driver fled into the woods north of the hotel and was not located, deputies said.
A member of the Northern Arizona Street Crimes Task Force helped the sheriff's office obtain and execute a search warrant on the U-Haul.
BNSF law enforcement were called to the area and took custody of the property.
Authorities said they stopped the other vehicle and three people were interviewed and released before deputies discovered of the stolen items.
BNSF has taken over handling the investigation.
