Explosive materials left at Phoenix fire station

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A Phoenix fire station received a bit of a scare Monday night.

A bomb squad rushed to the station at Seventh Street and Paradise Lane after an unidentified man dropped off a box of volatile chemicals, according to a Phoenix Fire Department spokesman.

The man left the materials, all separated in individual containers, hoping to get rid of them, the spokesman said.

But fire stations are not the place to do that, the spokesman said, since investigations into the materials would cause a delay in response times to emergencies in the immediate area.

The spokesman said the substances weren't technically bomb-making materials, but they could still explode.
