NEW LONDON, CT (WFSB) -

New London police were called to a home in New London Saturday afternoon, after the homeowner spotted an alligator.

Police were called to the area of Broad Street and Georgiana Street, after they saw a 3 1/2 foot alligator in their front yard.

When police arrived, the alligator was seen running down the sidewalk and into a small grassy area.

Officers were able to contain and trap the alligator, until the New London Animal Control officer arrived, and caged it.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection were called for assistance, and took custody of the alligator.
