State police release holiday traffic statistics

MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) -

Connecticut State Police released information on traffic violations during the July Fourth holiday.

As of Wednesday afternoon, more than 200 drivers were cited for speeding and almost 40 crashes have been reported so far.

Final traffic statistics won't be released until the holiday weekend is officially over, which ends at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, but the following numbers were released by Connecticut State Police:

  • 207 speeding violations
  • 54 seatbelt violations
  • 568 "other" violations
  • 4 driving under the influence
  • 39 crashes
  • 5 with injuries (none of the crashes were fatal)

In 2012, there were 323 accidents with 45 DUI Arrests and 1,059 speeding tickets, according to state police.
