A large amount of jewelry, a laptop and marijuana were seized during a routine traffic stop in Plainfield early Friday morning.
Officers stopped 1996 Chevrolet Lumina on Putnam Road at 1:49 a.m. Police smelled a "strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle" during the stop.
The passenger, who was identified as 21-year-old Charles C. Lonchiadis Jr., was arrested and charged with possession of synthetic marijuana, possession of marijuana less than 4 ounces, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers located a laptop and a large amount of the jewelry, which police said were taken from a home in Thompson.
The driver of the vehicle, who was identified as 22-year-old Joshua A. Thuotte, was also arrested in connection with the thefts, police said.
The seized property was turned over to state police.
Lonchiadis was released on a $500 bond and is expected to be arraigned at Danielson Superior Court on July 15.
