New Haven, Waterbury open cooling centers

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

Officials in New Haven and Waterbury have opened cooling centers in the cities to help residents beat the heat.

The following locations in New Haven have been opened as cooling centers for seniors until 4 p.m.:

  • Atwater Senior Center, 26 Atwater St.
  • Dixwell/Newhallville Senior Center, 255 Goffe St.
  • East Shore Senior Center, 411 Townsend Ave.

The following locations have been opened as cooling centers for the general public until 7 p.m.:

  • New Haven Free Public Library, Main Branch, Downtown, 133 Elm St.
  • Fair Haven BranchLibrary, 182 Grand Ave.
  • Mitchell BranchLibrary, 37 Harrison St. 
  • Stetson BranchLibrary, 200 Dixwell Ave. (in the Dixwell Plaza)
  • Courtland SeymourWilson Branch Library, 303 Washington Ave.

The following locations have been opened as cooling centers in Waterbury until 8 p.m.:

  • Silas Bronson Library, 267 Grand St.
  • City of Waterbury Health Department, 1 Jefferson Square, 185 S. Main St.
