Heat causes mechanical problems on New Haven bridge

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

Extreme heat led to mechanical and electrical problems on the Grand Avenue Bridge and caused New Haven officials to shut it down Monday.

The bridge will be closed until 6 p.m. on Monday. The bridge will reopen from 6 p.m. until 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

City officials said the bridge will then be closed for an undetermined amount of time while repairs are being made.

The following alternate routes were released to help drivers who travel in the area.

For drivers traveling eastbound on Grand Avenue, they should take a left onto Front Street, a right onto Middletown Avenue to Foxon Boulevard and take a right onto Quinnipiac Avenue.

For drivers traveling westbound on East Grand Avenue, they should take a left onto Quinnipiac Avenue, a right onto East Ferry Street, to Ferry Street and a left onto Grand Avenue.
