MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) -

A Middletown man is accused of leaving a small dog in a car for more than 13 hours, according to police.

Police were called to the 100 block of Liberty Street where the dog, which was panting heavily, was found in the vehicle.

The interior temperature of the vehicle was 113.9 degrees and the window was only open a few inches, police said.

Police located the car's owner, who was later identified as 18-year-old Emiliano Badillo Jr.

Badillo admitted to police that he left the animal in the car without checking on it and giving it water.

Police said the dog did not die, but did not give any further details.

Badillo was issued a ticket for cruelty to animals. He is expected to appear in Middlesex Superior Court on Tuesday.
