The United Parcel Service Foundation gave the Windsor Locks Fire Department a $14,000 grant Tuesday.
The grant is planned to aid in the replacement of the Hurst tools on Engine 5, more commonly known as the "jaws of life."
In 2012, the UPS Foundation awarded the fire department with an $8,200 grant to replace the pump portion of the Hurst tool. The grant received this year will be used to replace the cutter and spreader portions of the tool.
The UPS Foundation was established in 1951 and based in Atlanta, GA. The foundation "identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impacts social issues."
This grant will help to provide community safety.
"The UPS Foundation is honored to support the Windsor Locks Fire Department's efforts to serve and protect the Town of Windsor Locks," said Eduardo Martinez, president of the UPS Foundation. "Our goal is to fund powerful programs that make a lasting difference to the global community."
