WOODBRIDGE, CT (WFSB) -

An animal control officer for the Woodbridge Police Department was arrested after she was accused of "misappropriation of vouchers and funds used for the spaying and neutering of dogs and cats," police said.

Karen Lombardi, 59, of Milford was charged with second-degree larceny after a complaint was received by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture animal division.

Police said the misappropriation of vouchers and funds occurred during October 2012 as well as other dates.

Lombardi was released on a $1,000 bond and is expected to be arraigned at New Haven Superior Court on July 18.
