A Midland man claims the scale cost him a job installing satellite dishes.
He is suing Multiband Field Services Inc. for weight discrimination. The lawsuit alleges he was denied the job because he weighed more than 250 pounds.
"Oh he was devastated. He couldn't believe his weight would be the sole reason that he was denied employment," said the man's attorney, Julie Gafkay.
Michigan law does not allow discrimination based on weight. Gafkay thinks this case has the potential to become a class action lawsuit.
TV5 has reached out to Direct TV and Multiband Field Services.
Gafkay said this case has some similarities to a 2010 lawsuit brought by a Michigan Hooters waitress. The waitress sued Hooters over claims she was told to lose weight.
