FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -
A summer storm left behind quite a bit of damage Wednesday in Middle Tennessee, especially in Franklin, where strong winds peeled the metal roof from a shopping plaza near Murfreesboro Pike.
A witness to the storm damage at Holiday Wine & Spirits said the power went out, so he looked outside and heard a strange noise.
"It was just like paper ripping. It was quick - probably just 10 seconds - and the whole roof came off," said witness Ashok Patel. "It was crazy. I've never seen that before."
It could take days to clean up the leaves and branches from yards and gutters, but as workers at Holiday Wine & Spirits picked up the pieces Thursday, manager Michelle Fry greeted a few customers undeterred by what happened.
"It wasn't too bad for me, but I'm the type of person who when it's storming - tornado warnings - I'm right out there in the middle of it. So, you know, to me, storms are fun," Fry said.
Tell that to Michael Davis.
"Glad it didn't hit the house," Davis said.
He now needs to go car shopping after it seems Mother Nature decided it might be time for a new minivan.
"We just heard a lot of wind, looked outside and realized that both of our cars were covered with a big, fat tree. So, lucky everybody's okay," Davis said. "We're hoping Liberty comes through for us and gets us a new vehicle. That's what we have insurance for anyway."
The roof at Quality Inn along Murfreesboro Road was also torn off by the strong winds, and a tree fell onto a home on Calgary Drive off Liberty Pike.
There are a lot of good attitudes about the impact of the severe weather, and the bright spot is there have been no injuries to report due to the storms.
Elsewhere, flooding was reported in parts of Wilson County, and fire crews were called to a small fire possibly caused by a lightning strike at a church in Lebanon.
The College Hills Church of Christ was struck about 6 p.m.
