Lightning strikes Middletown home

Posted: Updated:
MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) -

Emergency officials said lightning hit a Middletown home during strong thunderstorms Thursday morning.

Officials from the building department said the bolt of lightning hit the chimney of the home on Schuyler Avenue and made its way into an electrical panel.

Most of the damage was to the roof and chimney of the home, and officials said the fireplace "exploded" inside.

Officials said the force of the lightning strike blew the grate off the fireplace inside the home.

Those inside were able to escape and no injuries were reported.
