Officials with the Connecticut Business Bureau said they have received reports from residents about a New Britain based company that failed to answer to consumer complaints.
According to BBB files, New England Sheds Company, which offers sheds, gazebos, garages, play houses, swing sets, horse barns, decks and home improvement services, have a set of complaints of allegedly not delivering ordered sheds.
Consumers have told BBB that they paid a deposit, but have had their delivery date repeatedly postponed.
The New England Sheds Company, which was incorporated in April 2009, is registered with the state to Demetrios Katras. BBB said Katras has been the "subject of several court actions in Pennsylvania and Connecticut, some of which name him personally, as well as a former company of his, Custom Built Sturctures, and his current business, New England Sheds."
Katras' current company has an "F" rating according to the BBB. The business has had eight closed consumer complaints filed with Connecticut BBB in the past 36 months. It hasn't responded to four complaints since May 2013.
One Stratford consumer reported that the delivery date was moved back several times between telephone calls and emails from the company. In the emails and calls, the company promised delivery "next week," then "a couple weeks," and then was told the weather was "too cold" to permit delivery. This complaint has remained unanswered.
Another consumer from Plainville told BBB that he was given many excuses as to why the shed he ordered had not been delivered. He stated that the telephone calls and emails he sent to the company have not been answered.
A Danbury consumer filed a complaint to BBB in June and told them he put down a $3,500 deposit for his shed and was told the delivery was delayed since the driver was injured in an accident. As said in his complaint, his calls and emails to the company have not been returned.
