ANSONIA, CT (WFSB) -

Ansonia police are advising residents to be alert after a home invasion where an elderly woman was forced to the ground and had money stolen from her early Monday morning.

A 78-year-old woman heard a noise in her kitchen at her home on Tremont Street around 2 a.m., police said.

When she went to investigate the noise, she was attacked by an unidentified man, who demanded money from her.

The suspect took $40 as well as identification and credit cards from her pocketbook and fled the home, police said.

It is unclear if the woman was injured during the incident.

Police searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

During their investigation, police determined that the suspect got into the home through a kitchen window.

The suspect never displayed or threatened to have a weapon, police said.

Police do not have a description of the suspect.

The home invasion remains under investigation. Anyone with any information about the suspect or incident is asked to call 203-735-1885.
