ANSONIA, CT (WFSB) -

Police in Ansonia are investigating after 78-year-old woman was forced to the floor during a terrifying home invasion early Monday morning.

Just after 2 a.m., police said they received a 911 call from a Tremont Street resident reporting someone had broken into her home and took money.

She said she was forced to the floor during the incident so she could not identify the man that had broken in.

She said she awoke to a sound in the kitchen, and when she went to go investigate, she was approached by the man.

After he forced her to the floor, she said he repeatedly asked her for money. The victim told the man she had cash in her pocketbook, and the man stole it, with the cash inside, and fled the home.

Police said the man was able to get into the home via an open window, and no weapons were displayed or used in a threatening manner, police said.

Investigators said they have a strong suspect in mind, but it remains under investigation.
