The Bridgeport Police Department identified the 32-year-old man who was shot and killed Wednesday morning.
Police said the shooting occurred in the area of Sixth Street between Connecticut Avenue and Stratford Avenue around 7:30 a.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they said they found Kiaunte Ware of Bridgeport in the driver's seat of gray Hyundai Sonata with New York plates suffering from several gunshot wounds.
Ware was brought to Bridgeport Hospital where he died a short time later.
This is the seventh homicide in Bridgeport in 2013, which includes a fatal police-involved shooting.
"In the first half of the year, the city experienced a 25 percent drop in violent crime," police said in a statement Wednesday.
One of the victim's neighbors told Eyewitness News Ware was the father of a newborn baby girl.
"I'm mad that was my boy," said Tayvon Ware of Bridgeport.
The Hyundai Sonata was believed to be a rental car, police said.
The fatal shooting remains under investigation and police are asking for the public's help.
Investigators did not release any information on suspects and motives as of Wednesday afternoon.
Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to call the Bridgeport Police Department at 203-576-8126 or text information to CRIMES (274637) then TIP717 in the body of the text message. All calls will remain anonymous.
