NEW HAVEN, CT (AP) -

The former chairman of the tribe that runs one of the world's largest casinos is heading to trial on charges that he stole more than $100,000 from the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

The trial of Michael Thomas starts Monday in federal court in New Haven.

The tribe owns and operates Foxwoods Resort Casino on its reservation in Ledyard.

Thomas, who has pleaded not guilty, is accused of stealing more than $100,000 in tribal funds during his tenure as leader of the tribal council. His brother, Steven Thomas, is charged with stealing more than $700,000 when he was assistant director of the tribe's natural resources department.

Steven Thomas, whose trial starts in November, also has pleaded not guilty.
