NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -
A 11-month-old New Haven girl and her mother were found safe in Bridgeport on Monday evening, police said.
According to police, 33-year-old Rickardo Rhoden held his girlfriend, 26-year-old Sarah Burton, at knife-point inside their apartment on Norton Street around 3 p.m.
Then, police said Rhoden forced Burton and their 11-month-old daughter, Azryrah Rhoden, into a blue 2002 Buick Century and witnesses told police they saw him drive off.
State police issued an Amber Alert for Azryrah Rhoden and a Silver Alert for Burton.
Azryrah Rhoden was located on Colorado Avenue in Bridgeport along with Rickardo Rhoden around 5:30 p.m. by police. The Amber Alert for the girl was canceled at that time.
Burton was located, safe and sound a short time later, police said. And the Silver Alert was canceled.
Police said Rickardo Rhoden will likely be charged with risk of injury and interfering with 911 call. He could be facing additional charges, police said.
Rickardo Rhoden has a long criminal history dating back to 1996 and including convictions for carjacking, first-degree assault, narcotics charges and third-degree criminal mischief.
Two other children were inside the apartment, but their grandmother was able to usher them to safety, police said.
Surveillance video from the apartment building was obtained by police.
Neighbors told Eyewitness News that Rhoden and Burton had lived at the apartment on Norton Street for a long time, but did not know how long. They also said the couple was in the process of moving.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the New Haven Police Department's Major Crimes Unit at 203-946-6304 or the New Haven Police "Tips Line" at 203-946-2875.
