PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A minor collision and chase led to a crash minutes later that killed one person and injured five others Monday afternoon, Phoenix police said.

A Chevrolet Trailblazer was rear-ended by a silver two-door Mazda at the intersection of Southern and 27th avenues, said Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump.

Crump said the car fled the scene, so the driver of the Trailblazer raced to follow it.

During that chase, Crump said the Trailblazer ran a red light and collided with a Dodge Caravan at Baseline Road, killing the minivan's driver, 43-year-old Rosalba Rojas.

A passenger in the minivan was seriously hurt. Four occupants in the Trailblazer, including three teenage children, were taken to a hospital and were expected to survive, Crump said.

He said none of the occupants of either vehicle were wearing seat belts.

Police were still searching for the Mazda and its driver, a Hispanic man in his 20s.

The vehicle was last seen traveling westbound on Baseline from 27th Avenue, Crump said.
