Flagstaff police are looking for a man who beat up and sexually assaulted a woman walking home from downtown.
The victim described the attacker as a Native American in his mid to late 20s. He is about 6' tall and weighs 200 pounds. He had medium-length black hair.
The attack happened at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
The victim said the man struck up a short conversation with her while walking on W. Santa Fe. At one point, he asked for directions, Flagstaff police said.
Afterward, the woman said she began to walk south on W. Grand Canyon Avenue when the man caught up with her again, asked her another question and grabbed her from behind, officers said.
The attacker was last seen wearing a gray, short-sleeved T-shirt, pants and unknown type of shoes. Police said they believe the suspect was in the downtown area before contacting the victim.
Detectives said they have canvassed all the surrounding home for any potential witnesses. People with any information about the case should contact Det. Wotasik at 928-679-4074, Sgt. Shantz at 928-679-4075 or Silent Witness 928-774-6111.
