Springfield police investigating early morning shooting

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

A 27-year-old man was shot just before 2 a.m. on Saturday in an incident that happened in front of the apartment complex at 15 Avon Place.

CBS 3 media partner Mass Live and The Republican reported that police first became aware of the shooting after the victim showed up at Baystate Medical Center in a private vehicle.

The man was shot once in the lower back and sustained what police are calling non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives did find a spent shell casing near the victim's vehicle.

The man said he did not see the shooter.

The incident remains under investigation.
