Middletown police arrested a 36-year-old homeowner for having marijuana after a fire broke out inside his home on July 24.
Joshua Souza was arrested after officers found a glass smoking bowl adjacent to the area where the fire broke out, police said.
According to police, Souza told them that he smoked marijuana on occasion, but denied any knowledge of drugs in the home. Police said Souza also could not give a reason for how the fire started.
During the investigation police said officers seized a large, clear, sealable plastic bag of suspected marijuana out of a refrigerator located near the area of the fire.
Police said the substance later tested positive for THC and weighed 37.5 grams.
Souza was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance/non-narcotic/hallucinogen/less than 40 oz. of Marijuana.
