Sheriff: Teen stole hair products to look good on first day of school
MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -
The Rutherford County sheriff stopped and nabbed a suspected thief Sunday morning on Memorial Boulevard in Murfreesboro.
Sheriff Robert Arnold spotted Denesha Carroll, 18, dodging cars behind the Bank of America and called Murfreesboro police to ask if she was a suspect in a crime. While the sheriff was making the call, dispatchers learned of a theft at a nearby Family Dollar.
Carroll matched the description given to dispatchers concerning the theft, so Arnold ordered her to stop and took her into custody.
Carroll allegedly stole $8.50 worth of hair care products from the Family Dollar.
"She said she was getting the hair products, because today was the first day back at school and she wanted her hair to look good," Arnold said. "And then the ironic thing was she kept asking us about trying to fix her hair, because she knew she was going to be on our sheriff's office app and she didn't want to have a bad hair day on that, either."
According to authorities, a Family Dollar employee reported that Carroll put the hair products into her purse in the store and when the employee confronted her, she ran.
Carroll is charged with theft of property. She was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and later released on $1,000 bond.
