A man found with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of a Phoenix Burger King is believed to have been involved in a series of incidents before the shooting Monday night.
The man is suspected of carjacking a Ford Explorer at gunpoint bout 8 p.m. from a Ranch Market at 59th Avenue and Thomas Road, said Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos.
The suspect then picked up two other people and drove to a home near 5400 W. Wilshire Dr., where a woman in the SUV lured a man out of the home who was assaulted by the suspect and another man in the SUV, Martos said.
The assault victim grabbed a gun from one of the suspects and began firing as they fled in the SUV, Martos said.
Minutes later, the first suspect was found sitting in the passenger side of the stolen Explorer at the Burger King at 51st Avenue and McDowell Road with multiple gunshot wounds, a handgun at his feet, Martos said.
Officers also checked out a neighborhood near 54th Avenue and Wilshire in connection with the incident and located a victim who had been assaulted, according to Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos.
The two other suspects, described as a 24-year-old Hispanic man and a 20- to 25-year-old Hispanic woman, fled the scene.
The wounded man was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition. The assault victim was not seriously hurt and none of the three carjacking victims was hurt.
