PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A benefit car wash was held Sunday to raise money for the family of slain Maricopa County Sheriff's Office detention officer Jorge Vargas.
Vargas was shot and killed in the driveway of his home Aug. 8.
Sunday's car wash drew many people to the parking lot of Jimbos Restaurant at 12224 N. 51st Ave. in Glendale.
Funeral services were held Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Parish at 3140 N. 51st Ave. in Phoenix.
A memorial fund has been established to benefit his family.
An account has been set up at Wells Fargo banks under the name "Officer Vargas memorial fund" and any donations are appreciated, according to a fund spokesperson. Contributors should reference account No. 8373157778.
Vargas was working on his truck in the driveway of his home when a man approached and shot him multiple times.
Vargas is survived by his wife and a young son.
Phoenix police and Maricopa County sheriff's deputies are still looking for the suspect, described as Hispanic, in his 20s, with black hair and between 155 and 160 pounds.
He was seen wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts.
