NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

The victim of a shooting in New Haven Thursday night has died, according to police.

New Haven police were called out to investigating a shooting on Rosette Street shortly after 8 p.m.

According to police, an 18-year-old Devaante Jackson of West Haven was found suffering from a gunshot wound and rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital.

Police said he died a short time later.

According to friends of the victim, Jackson is a student at Wilbur Cross High School.

Shayna Williams said, "I'm very confident that he was in the wrong spot at the wrong time. He was not the type to have guns."

Police are looking for a white Chrysler 300 that was seen speeding away from the scene of the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call New Haven police.
