CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5) -
A bomb threat forced the evacuation of a Walmart store and surrounding areas Friday morning.
A Chandler Police Department spokesman said a person upset with Walmart over a shoplifting arrest claimed he was on his way to the store at 1175 S. Arizona Ave. with a bomb about 9:45 a.m., said Sgt. Joe Favazzo of the Chandler Police Department.
Police bomb technicians and canine units from Tempe, Chandler and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office were searching the inside and exterior of the Walmart, Favazzo said.
He estimated the search would last until possibly 3 p.m.
Police were asking the public to avoid the area of Arizona Avenue between Pecos Road and the Loop 202 Santan Freeway.
No other information was immediately available.
