BLOOMFIELD, CT (WFSB) -
The Bloomfield Police Department arrested a 48-year-old man wanted in connection with at least one bank robbery and possibly a second one.
Police said a suspect, who was later identified as Richard T. Sheets, entered the Capitol Region Federal Credit Union in Wintonbury Mall in Bloomfield on June 3. Sheets handed the teller a note in which he demanded money. He fled with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.
Investigators believe that Sheets is responsible for a robbery at the Sovereign Bank on Windsor Avenue in Windsor on June 10.
During that robbery, the suspect demanded money multiple times from a bank teller after passing her a note. However, the teller had cashed out her drawer and did not have keys to access money.
The teller was able to locate keys and the suspect took an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect left in what witnesses described as a "newer model" gray or silver Ford Mustang headed southbound on Route 159.
Sheets, who was being held by the Department of Corrections, was arrested on Thursday and charged with second-degree robbery as well as third-degree larceny.
