BRANFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A Branford woman who was pulled from a burning vehicle after a crash early Sunday morning has died.

Megan Mcauliffe, 28, of Laurel Hill Road, was trapped in the passenger seat of the vehicle after it slammed into a tree on Brushy Plains Road around 1:20 a.m.

Two police officers were able to pull Mcauliffe to safety as the car burned, and she was brought to Yale-New Haven Hospital where she eventually died.

Police are investigating why the vehicle, which was being driven by Vincent Mauro, 31, lost control and went off the right side of the road before hitting the tree.

At this point, no charges have been filed against Mauro.
