United States Sen. Chris Murphy is meeting with health and human service organizations to discuss how automatic federal spending cuts will affect their operations.
The Democrat has scheduled a roundtable discussion on Tuesday with local service providers to discuss the so-called sequestration.
Murphy said many organizations, such as community health centers, local charities, senior centers and youth development groups, have already faced significant budget and personnel cuts due to Washington's failure to strike a bipartisan budget deal. He said they could face more cuts in the coming months if the automatic cuts continue.
The discussion is scheduled to be held form 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Meriden Public Library. Murphy is expected to meet with the media afterward to discuss the need to preserve federal funding for these organizations.
