DANBURY, Conn. (AP) - State police say a man who was killed on Interstate 84 in Danbury after running in front of a tractor-trailer appeared to have been contemplating suicide.
The incident happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the westbound lanes near exit 5 and caused major traffic backups. The entire westbound side of the highway was closed for more than two hours.
State police say the 52-year-old state resident got out of a friend's car parked near the highway and made a comment that appeared to show he was thinking about suicide. Troopers say he then ran in front of a tractor-trailer and suffered massive, fatal injuries.
The man's name hasn't been released.
Authorities say the collision was unavoidable and no charges will be filed.
