State police in Durham are investigating an early morning crash that has injured two people.
Police were called to the area of Foot Hills Road in Durham after reports that a vehicle struck a tree head-on.
Police told Eyewitness News Kevin Wiknik, 18, of Durham, was driving his Mitsubishi 3000GT south on Foot Hills Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle.
The vehicle went airborne, landing in the middle of Foot Hills Road, where its engine became dislodged as the vehicle continued across the roadway, coming to a final rest against the southbound wire rope guardrail.
Wiknik was extricated from the vehicle by Durham Fire and was flown by LifeStar helicopter to Hartford Hospital.
The passenger in the vehicle, Timothy Cronin, 18, of Higganum, fled the scene on foot but was later located and admitted himself into Middlesex Hospital with minor injuries.
