New Haven police are investigating the shooting death of a 22-year-old city man in the Fair Haven section of the city early Monday morning.
Police were called to the area of 127 Clay St. just after midnight and said they found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound to his head.
"I looked out the window and I saw cops everywhere," said neighbor Jordan Lampo, who added her mother ran over to help.
The victim, identified as 22-year-old Marquis Harris of New Haven, was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead hours later.
"He's only 22 years old. He's got his whole life ahead of him, that's somebody's child," said a relative, who wished not to be identified.
Police believe Harris was shot in the rear yard of the Clay Street home, but he was not a resident of the home.
Investigators spent hours at the home collecting evidence, snapping photographs and interviewing witnesses.
"I'm kind of scared but like I said you just have to be careful," said one neighbor, who wished not to be identified.
Residents in the neighborhood told Eyewitness News they're just hoping for justice for Harris.
No arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information is urged to contact the New Haven Police Department at 203-946-6304.
