A local couple isn't giving up hope as they mark the 9th anniversary of the disappearance of their son.
William and Janice Smolinski of Cheshire urged police everywhere to take missing person cases more seriously as they attended a vigil for their son in Naugatuck Sunday.
Waterbury resident and Naugatuck native William "Billy" Smolinski Jr. was 31 when he vanished on Aug. 24, 2004. The Republican-American reports about 75 people at the vigil held thin white candles and prayed for Smolinski's safe return.
William Smolinski says tips about his son are still coming in, and Janice Smolinski says she still works every day to find her son.
State police say they're also not giving up hope as they continue to investigate Smolinski's disappearance.
