New Haven police promise enhanced presence downtown

Posted: Updated:
NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

The New Haven Police Department is making its presence known in an attempt to promote safety in the downtown entertainment district.

Police said that the first few weeks after students head back to school are usually extremely busy for the department, and officers will be there en mass to patrol the area with little tolerance for even the slightest infractions.

Police said they want people to know that unacceptable noise, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and other related behavior is unacceptable and those breaking the law will be subject to arrest.

According to police the area's bars and clubs will also be watched to ensure occupancies rules are followed and those drinking alcohol are of age.
