HAMDEN, CT (WFSB) -

A 52-year-old man was arrested after police said he was found inside a store in Hamden after hours in possession of pieces of jewelry early Thursday morning.

Officers were called to Ruby's Jeweler's, located at 3056 Whitney Ave., for a suspect in the building around 5 a.m. Upon arrival, a man, who was later identified as Alex Alicea, of Bridgeport, was found behind a display counter, police said.

Alicea fled the store and after a short foot pursuit, he was located by officers hiding in bushes, police said.

Alicea, who was found in possession of several pieces of jewelry, was arrested. He was charged with first-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, fourth-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief.

Alicea was held on a $50,000 bond and was arraigned at Meriden Superior Court Friday.
