One man is dead and a woman in the hospital after they were both shot in a Blue Hills neighborhood in Hartford early Sunday morning.
Officers received multiple calls about a double shooting in the area of 16 Durham St. around 2:30 a.m.
Eyewitness News has exclusively learned that an unidentified man and woman in their 30s were shot after coming back when a night out in the city when they were confronted by the suspect outside her home.
A 30-year-old man from Manchester was found dead on the scene when officers arrived, police said. The man was shot twice, police said.
A 34-year-old woman from Hartford was shot twice and taken to St. Francis Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She was conscious and talking when she was transported to the hospital, police said.
Police are not releasing the names of the victims at this time.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Hartford Police Department Major Crimes Division. Police said the shooting is not believed to be random.
Police blocked off Durham Street while they collected evidence. Investigators said they are looking at vehicle tire marks in connection with this crime.
A woman came to the crime scene and once she saw the car started crying. She would collapse from grief and had to be carried away.
"Stuff doesn't happen over here. I'm surprised because I have kids," said neighbor Khaera Baker of Hartford. "Stuff doesn't happen at all here."
The Durham Street area where the shooting took place is a quiet residential neighborhood, according to officers and police told Eyewitness News they don't come here often.
"Most of us had to look on a map for this street. We're never here, Durham Street," said Hartford Police Lt. Brian Foley. "This is a very quiet neighborhood, single family homes."
Anyone with information is urged to call Hartford police at 860-757-4000 or the tip line at 860-722-TIPS (8477). All calls will be kept confidential.
